I just got a flag in artfire.com ...the product is under reviewed, now...the staff asked me to move the item to another section other than handmade becauseeeeeee in the desc I wrote design & pattern by sweet nichan... here why I always write that instead of "handmade by"... in my country, beautiful indonesia...sewing is quite common skill...handmade by...a lot of people here can do handmade...and not only a handmade, they can do it with great quality, too... i only took 2 times of great intermediate fashion-clothing sewing courses and 1 time of great basic fashion design course. Never took a bag sewing course and design. But I guess, in my head this is my concept: " Although it's a handmade, it's gotta be PERFECT!" There's no way, I won't do it imperfectly...of course unless, i'm in learning time...mistakes happens...but when it comes to portfolio or selling purpose, there's no way, I woul show the mistake. Some people and may be a lot, think of that a handmade was supposed to be "looked" handmade...a.k.a there's a little bit messy here and there...and nah, that's handmade. Because handmade seems like "home" not "boutique" class... In my case: I want to make my hand-home-made quality comparable to those of boutique class... some people have seen my work directly...they said (thank you so much), I did it so neatly. My sister in-law even said, it's a boutique item, not like bulk item production... I want to ask all of you that still there...there at the spot that handmade is second-class product, incomparable to boutique class, can't be done without great quality, can't be done perfectly or if it can, it's gotta be a team to do it! I would like to say, it's WRONG! I can do it! Some people have admitted my work. They saw it directly. They explored my work...may be try to find a messy thing that used to be found in "handmade"...after that, they say,"it's very neat...very-very neat..."...after that, they still explored...I'm never angry about it...because I'm open to positive critics if they have... I'm always so proud to say Design & Pattern by Sweet Nichan...It's because I'm not only doing handmade but I do all task that should be done by a team! Even ordering my supplies...If you want to know my struggle everytime I go to Jogja...I ride my motobike, and go inside the traditional market which is so hot...and when it's rain, the road is so wet and uncomfortable...I bring all stuff with my bike...dakron, threads, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc...a lot...on the back-seat, on the front hanger on the bike...full of supplies!...it's a day shopping and not finished, yet...next day...or a few days later, I go back to shop what I haven't. I've seen a lot of sellers that the craft style follows other designs, trends, or the worst uses or modifies ready-to-use-pattern...Perhaps, it's so hard for them to think or do task that should be done by a team...It's already like a BLAH, MMbrrlllll just to think what next design is... me???? I LOVE DESIGN! more than that, I LOVE MAKE IT REALIZED, too...because I want to prove to myself that I'm not doing any (sorry) bullshit here!...if it's a difficult design, I will pursue it...Like now, I'm thinking to take an advance sewing course...because recently, I like designing some specific clothes that need more skill than I have now... Designing, Making Pattern, and Executing it...all shares the same fun for me (^v^) ... Even if I have employees and real boutique in the future, I'm sure I will do my own crafts aside from business... because... Crafting is my passion ... Now, I hope people that still on the "handmade-must-be-messy" spot can change their own mind after reading my post...I'm still thinking, it's just wrong to think that way...It's just negative to think that way...it won't bring any progress... Whatever you do, do it passionately! So, you will see that the result of whatever you do is adorable, loveable, and interesting...When you can see that from your eyes ,so are other people. If you do it just ah, this is just for home...no need to be neat, or something like that, than that what will happen...your work will be a so-so work. If you bring this thought when making things to sell, still, it's a so-so handmade to sell...so, this is what I said before,"handmade-must-be-messy"...while actually, you can do that more than that!... I'm not telling a theory here...I've been there...in that spot...Just because it's for personal use, I didn't make it seriously...Until after my sewing teacher taught me "good" sewing...then I understand...although, it's only at-home-clothing, I must do it seriously and passionately...although, the bags are for myself, I must do it seriously and passionately...Now, most of time, I'm very satisfied with the projects I've done (^.^)...presenting the best for myself and for other's enjoyment Satisfaction can't be paid...Satisfaction is born from Passion...  cherio, |
